THE EXTERIOR OF YOUR HOME
Houses in the UK really take damage from the harsh and unpredictable weather we have. Heavy rain, storms and then dry and warm weather create the perfect conditions for cracks, wall erosion, damp, mould and the degradation of the aesthetic appeal.
The most effective external weatherproofing methods involve coating the outside walls of your home in specially formulated materials that are then coated onto the the walls and left to set. This method is the most effective way to protect against external wall damage, however, it does come with its disadvantages.
Firstly this method is very expensive costing between ten to twenty thousand pounds. It takes a few weeks to complete the work, the process involves coating parts of the exterior wall, waiting for it to set and then coating it again and repeating this a number of times.
The second issue with this method is that it does not look aesthetically good or attractive. The end effect of this material is a coarse, rough, bubbling and unsmooth wall. It looks like plaster that has been applied to a wall but not properly smoothed out.
This option is popular with landlords as once its done it protects the property for ten to fifteen years, so once applied the landlord does not need to think or worry about the external walls of their property for a very long time.
This very effective method of weatherproofing and protecting a house is not very popular due to the reasons mentioned before, the very high cost and the aesthetically bad look of it.
The next best option and method to weatherproof and protect the exterior of your property is to use protective paints. There are a wide variety of paints that can be used to paint the exterior of a house, these range from light watery paints to thick, sludgy paints. The best type of paint to use on the outside of a house depends on the material the house is made from. In the UK, especially in London almost all properties are made from brick so at EPP we use the highest quality, specially formulated paints that work best on brick and are infused with chemicals that protect against heavy rain and UV rays from the sun.
Protective paint in a dry and mild to sunny climate can actually last a very long time, usually between 5 - 10 years, sometimes even longer. However in the UK with its bitter cold winters, all year round rain and generally high humidity protective paints have a lot to deal with and usually last 5 years in the UK. After this time period the protective qualities of the paint start to degrade and be less effective and should be reapplied to ensure the long term protection of the external walls.

PRICING
Transparent / Straightforward / Honest
The price we charge for painting houses varies and depends on the individual complexities of each property. A larger and more complex property requires more work and materials therefore has a higher charge whereas a smaller property requires less time and material to complete therefore has a lower charge. Painting a mansion or large property usually costs anywhere from 5 to 10 thousand pounds or even more depending on the size. Painting a bungalow usually costs between 2 to 3 thousand pounds.
The examples of the properties above are extremes and most of our jobs are on normal properties in and around London. A normal property being a two or three floor terraced property. A perfect example of the average and most common type of property we paint is in the picture on the left. To paint this property (front and back) we typically charge £2000.
If the client wants the railings or front wall painted to (as the vast majority often do) we charge £2500.
The above example is the most typical and common job that we at ExternalPaintingPros do and it makes up 70% - 80% of our business.
If the property is made up of three floors then we charge £3000 and £3500 for railings, front wall, etc. We essentially charge £1000 for each floor of a property, if the property is detached or semi detached we charge £500 for each side of a property. We charge less for the side of a property as side walls are easier and less complicated to paint then front and back walls.
By charging £1000 a floor we feel this gives you the client a transparent and honest idea of how much your property will cost to paint.
The deposit is 50% of the cost of the job, we understand that it can seem daunting to give half of the cost of the job upfront, but we are also taking a risk on the client by completing the job with only half payment. This type of service requires trust from both parties and we feel we are dealing with more trustworthy clients if they agree to a 50% deposit.
The deposit is paid once we have agreed with the client how they want their property painted and a date is confirmed. Then when the job is complete our painters get the sign off from you the client, only when you are 100% satisfied with the job and sign off on it, then you pay the remainder of the charge.
